He's also quite entertaining and moving in this performance and has good chemistry with Joan Leslie (20+ years his junior!). His long apprenticeship in and ability for 'hoofing' served him well here, as he said he really considered himself a 'song-and-dance' man. An enormously enjoyable performance that deserved to win.Frank/click5https://www.blogger.com/profile/03605293626729520817noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8014874020674080213.post-22156385140707149042015-02-13T22:48:18.996-08:002015-02-13T22:48:18.996-08:00Yeah, I'm surprised myself. As long as he won for something, then all's well, because Public Enemy, Angels With Dirty Faces and White Heat certainly stick with you once seen. I was amazed also by Love Me Or Leave Me, not only by Cagney's work, but a Doris Day character who wasn't unremittingly nice, which was a welcome change. He was nominated; she, surprisingly was not, for some of her best dramatic work.dvlarieshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14154934310323584284noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8014874020674080213.post-58649501552926422872015-02-10T10:32:26.992-08:002015-02-10T10:32:26.992-08:00After your tweet I was expecting a much, much, muc...After your tweet I was expecting a much, much, much lower grade for him but I'm pleased to see that you came around on him by the time all was said and done. It's been a long, long while since I've seen YDD but I remember both it and Cagney fondly. It's almost certainly him vs. Colman for the win this year (certainly not Pidgeon).Derek Bowmanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13276278383887354106noreply@blogger.com
